As its president and chief executive officer, Thompson is responsible for the overall operation of University HealthSystem Consortium.

Thompson previously served as president and chief executive officer of the University of Kansas Hospital Authority for 11 years, where she was instrumental in establishing the hospital as an independent entity.

Thompson serves on a regional affiliate board of the American Heart Association and has previously served as board chairperson of UHC as well as the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems. She was also president of the Kansas City, Kansas, Chamber of Commerce and has participated on numerous other community not-for-profit boards.
