Novation Wins National Award for Environmental Achievement
H2E Recognizes Leaders in Transforming Health Care
IRVING, TX; May 7, 2007 Novation, the health care contracting
services company of VHA Inc. and the University
HealthSystem Consortium (UHC), two national
health alliances, has won a Champions for Change award for the
fourth consecutive year from Hospitals for a Healthy Environment
(H2E). H2E’s
Champions for Change Award recognizes Novation
for improvements in its environmental performance and for leadership
in environmentally responsible health care.
“Novation is at
the forefront of a fundamental shift in
the health care industry,” said
H2E Executive Director Laura Brannen. “By introducing
healthier and more responsible products and practices, Novation is helping health
care facilities everywhere to operate in ways that protect the health of patients,
workers, communities, and the environment. This is a revolution that benefits
everyone.”
Jointly founded by the American Hospital Association, the Environmental
Protection Agency, Health Care Without
Harm, and the American Nurses Association, H2E is an independent
not-for-profit organization focused on improving health care’s
environment performance. H2E envisions a health care system committed to
reduced waste volume and toxicity, efficient energy and water use, clean, air,
safe work practices, and safe buildings.
Since 2002, H2E has been acknowledging outstanding contributions
to the creation of a truly healthy health
care system. The
H2E Environment Excellence Awards are the
industry’s premier
environmental honors. Novation was recognized for its leadership
in improving the health care industry’s environmental performance.
Novation
and its alliances, VHA and UHC, work together to reduce the environmental
impacts of providing health care by sharing best practices on a wide array
of environmental issues – such as food sustainability, pharmacuetical
waste management, mercury elimination, green cleaning and healthy buildings. Novation
continues to strive towards contracting for environmentally safe products and
practices with initiatives that include:
- Safer food alternatives
- Management of pharmaceutical waste
- Reduction/reuse/recycle initiatives
- Chemicals management policy
- Expansion of safety attributes product listings
“Novation
embraces the initiatives established by
H2E and continues to support environmentally
preferred purchasing patterns both internally
and across all
of the hospitals and health care organizations
we represent,” says
Christine Miller, senior clinical manager
for Novation's safety program. “Receipt of this recognition
from H2E is the result of a collaborative and committed effort
by Novation, alliance member health care organizations, and
suppliers to work towards a sustainable health
care environment.”
