Novation Recognized For Environmental Excellence

Wins National Award for Fifth Consecutive Year

IRVING, TX; May 21, 2008 — Novation, the health care contracting services company of VHA Inc., University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) and Provista, LLC., has won a Champion for Change Award for the fifth consecutive year from Practice Greenhealth. The award recognizes Novation for its leadership and commitment to environmentally responsible health care. Practice Greenhealth announced the winners at the 2008 Environmental Excellence Award banquet on May 20 at CleanMed in Pittsburgh, Penn.

“We are committed to the principles of Practice Greenhealth and we are honored to receive this award,” said Maryann Restino, vice president, contract and program services at Novation. “We are passionate about finding products across the spectrum of our portfolio that are safe for patients, health care workers and the environment.”

Novation, in collaboration with VHA, UHC and Provista, has focused on reducing the environmental impact health care by sharing best practices on a host of environmental issues – such as food sustainability, pharmaceutical waste management, mercury elimination, green cleaning and healthy buildings. To this end, Novation continues to initiate positive change by:

• Increasing the breadth and depth of Novation’s Environmentally Preferred Purchasing offering.
• Promoting environmentally preferable purchasing decisions at member organizations.
• Encouraging more environmentally preferable practices by awarded suppliers.
• Requiring suppliers to provide environmental impact and benefit statements for the products they manufacture.
• Partnering with leading advocates for environmental and sustainability changes.
• Continuing to implement internal environmental and sustainability practices.
