Novation Group Buy Savings May Help Offset Reduced Reimbursement From Proposed CMS Changes

IRVING, TX; June 5, 2008 — Novation, the leading health care contracting services company of VHA Inc., University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) and Provista, LLC, announced today, that it has added pressure ulcer and falls prevention products to its group buys. On average a single facility-acquired pressure ulcer patient can cost $2,170 and a single patient fall injury can cost on average $19,440 in additional treatment. The non-powered dynamic air mattresses and beds offer significant savings on products which have been clinically proven to help reduce falls and/or pressure ulcers.

These additions to Novation’s group buys offering will help hospitals offset the financial impact of the upcoming changes proposed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Beginning Oct. 1, 2008, Medicare will no longer pay the hospital at a higher rate for the original eight conditions or any conditions added to the list in the final rule, if they were acquired during the hospital stay. Two of these preventable events include patient falls and pressure ulcers.
