Novation Endorses Global Health and Safety Initiative's Environmental Preferable Purchasing (EPP) Policy
Strengthens Commitment to Sustainability and Social Responsibility
IRVING, TX; June 19, 2008 Novation, the leading health care contracting services company of VHA Inc., University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) and Provista, LLC, announced today that it endorses the Global Health and Safety Initiative’s (GHSI) Environmental Preferable Purchasing (EPP) Policy Statement for Health Care. The statement outlines the fundamental definitions, priorities and practices that advance the development and implementation of EPP in health care.
Launched in October 2007, the Global Health and Safety Initiative is a health care sector-wide collaboration to transform the way that healthcare designs, builds and operates its facilities as well as the products healthcare uses within those facilities. GHSI aims to build a learning community and leverage the expertise of its partners to support evidence-based improvements at the intersection of patient safety, worker safety and environmental sustainability.
“We are continually identifying ways to make decisions that position Novation as a good corporate citizen and that benefits the members we serve, the environment and the bottom line and this statements reinforces that commitment,” said Maryann Restino, vice president, contract and program services at Novation. “We recognize that this is a journey that evolves one step at a time and collaborating with GHSI is a giant step forward for us toward meeting our green initiatives.”
A “Champion of Change” award winner for five consecutive years, Novation, in collaboration with VHA, UHC and Provista, has focused on reducing the environmental impact of health care by sharing best practices on a host of environmental issues – such as food sustainability, pharmaceutical waste management, mercury elimination, green cleaning and healthy buildings.
